Software and SDR firmware updates

How updates to the WarDragon software and SDR firmware reach a kit, what to do before applying one, and what to expect afterward.

How updates are delivered

Updates are issued per kit, on request. Open a request through the support page with the serial number or order reference and the configuration you are running. You receive a download key and flash instructions specific to your kit. Follow those instructions; they are the authoritative procedure for that release.

Updates are not pushed to units automatically and there is no update channel to subscribe to. A unit that is working stays as it is until you ask for an update and apply it.

Important Do not update the detection software, DragonOS, or the SDR firmware from any source other than the instructions supplied with your download key. Package updates from general repositories can change components the detection chain depends on.

Before you apply an update

  1. Back up the configuration file and the hotspot profile:
cp /home/dragon/DragonSync/config.ini ~/config-backup.ini
sudo cp /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/WarDragon-Hotspot.nmconnection ~/hotspot-backup.nmconnection
  1. Copy any TAK certificates in /home/dragon/certs/ somewhere safe.
  2. Note the unit’s network settings — static address, Wi-Fi client network, hotspot passphrase.
  3. Have a display and keyboard available. Some updates require the local console, and remote access may need to be reinstalled afterward.
  4. Choose a time when the unit can be out of service. Allow up to 5 minutes for the first boot after an update.

After the update

  1. Confirm all three detection services are active:
sudo systemctl status zmq-decoder dji-receiver dragonsync
  1. Restore the configuration file if the update replaced it, then restart dragonsync.
  2. Restore the hotspot profile if needed: copy it back, set owner root and mode 600, then run sudo nmcli connection reload.
  3. Confirm remote access works before disconnecting the display. On a Mobile kit, refit the HDMI dummy plug.
  4. Confirm detections are arriving in your operational picture.

Earlier kits

Kits that predate the current Pro and Elite hardware use the same request path. Bringing an earlier kit onto the current software, or adding DragonScope to one, requires reflashing the SDR as well as updating the software, and is not a one-step update. Support will confirm what your kit needs before sending anything.
