Drone deliveries to a correctional facility take seconds and usually happen when staffing is thinnest. WarDragon monitors the airspace over the facility continuously, resolves drone communications to identified aircraft as they occur, and records each event, so the first indication of a delivery is not the contraband itself.

The operational problem

Activity concentrates in the overnight hours, when the fewest staff are available to respond.

Perimeter fencing and camera coverage were designed for approaches on the ground, not from above.

Without detection, an incident is usually identified only after the contraband is recovered.

Events that cannot be documented at the time are difficult to investigate or prosecute later.

What that costs is not the single delivery. It is that a facility cannot say how often it happens, at what hours, or over which yard, so post duties get assigned against a pattern nobody has measured. An incident recovered from a cell is an incident with no aircraft attached to it and no case to build.

The delivery itself is also rarely the first flight. An operator who intends to drop something has usually been over the facility before — long enough to learn the camera arcs, the yard schedule, and when the fewest staff are outside. A facility that treats the problem as the drop is defending against the last flight in a sequence rather than the first.

What WarDragon delivers against it

Each of those is a gap in information rather than a gap in response. The system closes them in the same order.

Detection during the flight. Continuous monitoring across the standards drones actually use. Aircraft flown outside Remote ID are a material part of the problem here, so detection does not rely on that signal alone.

A record over time. Each detection is logged and correlated to a single flight. Over weeks that establishes the pattern of activity at a facility, which is what supports post assignment, an investigation, or a funding request.

Open by design. Detections publish as CoT, so they arrive in the operating picture staff already use. Where a facility has no system to route into, options are configured as part of the deployment.

Runs on the device. Detection continues if network connectivity is lost, and does not depend on a subscription remaining active or on anyone’s servers staying up.

Coverage is not limited to Remote ID. WarDragon receives Remote ID broadcasts over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, identifies DJI OcuSync activity, and on Elite kits covers FPV control and video links and open telemetry standards through a second software-defined radio. The demodulation library grows with each software release and reaches kits already in the field.

Detection distance comes from antenna selection, height, placement, line of sight, and the RF environment rather than from the processor inside the kit. Antennas are specified per site.

What it will not do

It does not jam, disable, take control of, or otherwise interfere with an aircraft. Detection is passive; the system only listens.

It does not detect an aircraft that transmits nothing at all. A fully autonomous flight with no control link is outside the reach of RF detection of any kind, ours included. Radar is the answer to that class of aircraft.

It does not determine intent, and it does not decide anything. Output is a detection record delivered to the systems you already run.

It does not replace the fence, the cameras, or the post. It adds the airspace those were never designed to cover.

Specifying a system for a correctional facility

Corrections is a fixed-site mission, so the Drop-In configuration is usually the appropriate starting point. It installs once inside an existing enclosure, runs continuously without an operator present, and takes 12V or 24V DC power.

The Elite tier adds x86 processing and a second software-defined radio, extending coverage to FPV control and video links and open telemetry standards. Contraband delivery frequently involves aircraft that never broadcast Remote ID, so facilities treating those aircraft as part of the threat picture should specify Elite. The second radio is fitted at manufacture and is not a later addition to a Pro kit.

Coverage across yards and extended perimeters is set by antenna selection and placement. Antenna packages and the WarDragon Multi-Antenna Mount extend or sector coverage, and additional nodes aggregate into a single picture. Departments running several facilities sometimes add a Mobile unit that can be relocated to whichever site is seeing the most activity.

Detection is included with the kit and stays included, with no recurring fee and no connection to our servers. DragonScope is a separate capability rather than an unlock: it decodes encrypted DJI identification, including OcuSync 4, so a flight resolves to a serial number, a pilot location, and a takeoff point. A facility that needs to establish which aircraft made a delivery attempt adds it. A facility that needs to know an aircraft is inbound does not.

A detection system for a facility should report into the systems the facility already runs, not into software bought from the vendor who sold the sensor. Detections publish as CoT into an existing operating picture, detection itself carries no recurring fee, and nothing depends on a cloud connection.
