Backing up and restoring the unit’s configuration
Two files hold most of what you set on a unit: the DragonSync configuration, which controls where detections go, and the hotspot profile. Back both up before an update, before handing a unit to another team, and after any change you would not want to redo.
Back up
Open Terminal on the unit, or connect over SSH, and run:
cp /home/dragon/DragonSync/config.ini ~/config-backup.ini
sudo cp /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/WarDragon-Hotspot.nmconnection \
~/hotspot-backup.nmconnection
Copy both files off the unit to somewhere safe. A backup that lives only on the unit does not help if the unit is replaced.
Important The configuration file can hold TAK Server certificate passwords, MQTT credentials, and other secrets, and the hotspot profile holds the Wi-Fi passphrase. Store the backups with the same care as the unit itself.
Restore
Copy the files back to the unit’s home directory. To restore the DragonSync configuration:
cp ~/config-backup.ini /home/dragon/DragonSync/config.ini
sudo systemctl restart dragonsync
To restore the hotspot profile, copy it back, make it owned by root with mode 600, and reload NetworkManager:
sudo cp ~/hotspot-backup.nmconnection \
/etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/WarDragon-Hotspot.nmconnection
sudo chown root:root /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/WarDragon-Hotspot.nmconnection
sudo chmod 600 /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/WarDragon-Hotspot.nmconnection
sudo nmcli connection reload
Confirm detections are flowing again with sudo systemctl status dragonsync, and bring the hotspot up as described in Running the unit as a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Backups the Console makes for you
If you change settings through the WarDragon Console, each save leaves a timestamped copy of the previous file beside the one it changed. That covers rolling back a single bad edit. It does not replace a backup kept off the unit.
